21
as we all age through time, i believe all of us are facing changes in their lives. anyway, i was looking and reading all my old posts back then and to be honest, it was soooo lame but I really fond of my old memories.
as most of you know, i am 21 years old this year. yep, 21.
back when I was 19 and half, I was working as a part-time at restaurant. i worked to earn some money to buy some stuffs. during the time that i worked, i learned how to communicate, talk with people as most people claimed that i was very, very quiet girl. i talked randomly with the customers, such as where do they come from or where do they work, but I did enjoy myself talking to foreigners, most of the customers are from australia, saudi arabia and korea. i also enjoyed having conversation with regular customers, most of them were foreigners who lived in malaysia for years and they love to be here.
other than that, i have learned how life is getting harder as we get old. as we get old, we need to work on our own to earn money, i can no longer ask for money pockets from my parents if i want to buy anything. even when i go to college, i can only ask money to pay my rent, for my car monthly payment, and to pay petrol. yes, that's it. In case of short of money, i would ask them if i need some. this teaches me how to be more independent, and not depending on them. i see kids these days are easily get what they want. i mean, seriously, 7 years old owns an iPhone. for what? even some parents, no, A LOT OF PARENTS allow their babies/kids to play their tabs.
in my opinion, if they get close to technology stuffs, they would not enjoy their childhood. back in my days, when i was small, i used to be called as 'weird' because i did weird stuffs, for example, i poured lots of baby powders on top of table and poured water to it to make it into flour-like. i was playing 'masak-masak' with my little sister. other than that, there was one time where i went to my dad's hometown, i did 'mini house/farm' with bunch of woods for horses because I REALLY WANTED TO HAVE HORSES OR PONIES, although in real life, i did not own one. hmm. what else? my parents, especially my dad, scolded me for putting my handphone beside me when i wanna go to sleep.
that is one part of being an adult; independent. although they only lend some money on certain things but i realised that they want me to learn that how hard work pays off. that's how you earn money. unless you are rich. nothing in this world is free. i thanked them for that.
ok, i think it's enough to talk about that, and i'm sorry if you guys get offended by this because it is just my opinion. this is random post and insya-Allah, i would post more after this.

malacca
if you ask me to recommend a must-visit place to a first-time visitor to malaysia, my recommendation will be Malacca, which is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. malacca has a colourful history spanning over 600 years, from its humble beginnings in the 14th century to the centuries of colonisation by the portuguese, dutch and the british. its unique religious and cultural legacies are all reflected in its food culture.
the interracial marriages of chinese immigrants and local malays gave us straits chinese and peranakan cuisine, which uses mainly chinese ingredients with local spices while retaining local malay cooking techniques. peranakan or nyonya food is distinctively tangy, aromatic and spicy. a foodie trip to malacca is not complete without trying some of these peranakan offerings such as nyonya laksa and nyonya kuih. check out Donald & Lily’s, a small baba and nyonya house that dishes up simple but tasty nyonya classics, and indulge your sweet tooth by savouring some of Baba Charlie’s finger-licking nyonya kuih.
the best hotel i have stayed in centuries. please make Hatten Hotel your accommodation choice next time round when you are in malacca.
the hotel was like seriously AWESOME staying in was my favourite part of the trip, i wish i could have stayed on more days in the hotel. just relax don't go out.
the satay here is delicious. unlike places where the fatty part of meat is used, here the fat and meat are meticulously arranged to create a sensational bite. for most, it was just good old satay but it was more than that. good flavor in the meat along with an appetizing smokiness made it great. but what differentiates the satay here was not the meat. anyways, the sauce is not your typical 100% peanut sauce. it was more of a peranakan/malaccan style that you get. the sauce was rich with a hint of fruitiness as well as generous bits of pineapples. superbly more-ish with the satay and it was so yummy to the extent where i was literally drinking the sauce at one point. definitely a spot to go to.
embracing the malaysian food scene at its finest. i ordered the Chendol topped with Durian, the king of fruits. for starters, the chendol here is no lame over-rated crap. the use of the purest and most authentic Gula Malacca or Palm Sugar makes all sweet foods a treat. most people assume that IT IS ALL THE SAME. Definitely a big NONO. authentic palm sugar has a beautiful caramel flavor and a hint of sour after taste. here at Jonker 88, they were so generous with Gula Malacca which made it the perfect drink in the sweltering heat. the durian flavor was quite subtle to my dismay. i was expecting a better kick. towards the end, the drink became a little too sweet but still every bit delectable. but be careful though, fussy eaters might find the shaved ice a little rough.
so that's the end of my post. it's fairly easy to travel around in malacca from the city centre either by walking or taking a cab if the weather is too hot.
have fun.

my favourite song
american authors are a brilliant indie rock band based in brooklyn, new york and after the release of their self titled EP last year they have now released their album ‘Oh What A Life’ and it is a perfect example of what a great album should sound like. despite them being described as an indie band, there are so many elements of other genres of music used in their songs and that is what makes them so brilliant.
the only thing about this band that annoys me and its not even the bands fault is how so many people talk about how much they love this band when the only song that they have heard is Best Day Of My Life which is used on a few adverts. i seriously think if they listened to the whole of this album they would appreciate the band so much more. my favourite tracks on this album are Hit It, Trouble, Luck and Heart of Stone. there are so many country elements in this album which isn’t something i normally listen to but its used just enough so they are still classed as an indie band.

disappointment
i put so much expectations that turned out to be such a disappointment to me. however, i told myself, that is life. the cycle of life would not always at the top, and it would also not always be at the bottom. the reason why i posted this up because i, as a human being, blind enough to see what kind of future awaits me.

perhentian island
on a recent trip to the perhentian islands off the east coast of malaysia, i had to pause and re-evaluate my idea of paradise. in my mind, this place was going to be absolute paradise.
praise aside, i had also done some research and knew not to have my expectations too high. these were remote islands, after all, with only a few hours of electricity a day and no roads, no cars and not even a donkey and carts. so, i’m sure you are waiting to hear what could possibly make me think this place was not perfect, so let me explain.
on the boat to the island i was pretty mesmerized. everyone had been right about the colour of the water it was like nothing i had ever seen before. the water around these islands was so amazing that it almost looked fake, as if you were whizzing through the worlds largest swimming pool.
now comes the question that is really bothering me. are the perhentians still viewed as “paradise” to some people? have i been too spoiled throughout my travels with beautiful beaches, friendly people, delicious food and stunning scenery that i can no longer see appreciate paradise when it is staring me in the face? have i have gotten so old that i can no longer see the fun in staying in the dingey backpacker haunts i used once frequent? or am i right in thinking that tourism may have ruined the islands, as the rate of tourists visiting them has grown faster than the locals could handle?

penang
finally i'm back here updating this space. i went for a short getaway to penang. so for this post, i'm gonna blog about my penang trip. it's so sad that this short trip has ended so fast, but writing this post makes me goes back to the happy moment. so i had a one week holiday, my family and i decided to go for a 3 days 2 nights trip to penang.
checking in to the hotel made me so excited, because it's a beach side hotel. i have not went to the beach for so damn long, i just can't wait to feel the sea breeze. not to mention, i think the last time i came to penang was around 3 years ago. was hoping to get a beach view room, but because we booked our hotel last minute, so we only got the partial beach view room. but still it's okay, still can see the beach.
so of course, the first thing to do in our list was beach activities. although we arrived around 5 pm, but i think the best time to have beach activities is during evening, when the sun is setting and it's not so hot.
so for day 2, of course is food hunting time. penang is famous with their local cuisine, and coming to penang is a must to eat, eat and eat. it's fine to gain 1-2 kg because it's all worth it. personally, i hope that i could gain more.
next will be penang most famous char kuey teow. if you come, you must have this. the size of the prawn is so big and very juicy. not just that, i realize that what made this dish so delicious is because of the fire. they do not use gas but charcoal , and this is one of the reason why it's so nice. i have forgotten which street it's at.
finally, the last destination of my trip is the mural street. after artist Ernest Zacharevic painted his art on the wall of penang street, this has been one of the tourist attraction for penang. if you would come to penang, you would want to take a picture with this vivid alive murals. i really appreciate how artistic and talented he is, and how he made a dull street so special and alive. but i am also very sad and heartbroken that there is some mural that have been destroy or vandalize. i just don't understand why can't people appreciate the art, and why must they destroy it.
so that's all for my penang trip. bye penang, you will be miss. and now i am craving for another beach side vacation. i'm in love with beach.

universal studio singapore
for the kids and the young at heart, a visit to Universal Studios is a must in singapore. the theme park boasts world-class amusement rides, impressive architecture and countless hours of fun and excitement. for adrenaline junkies like us, there’s no way we would pass out on the thrilling rides.
upon arriving at Sentosa at about 9:30am, we could already see a swarm of people buying tickets and taking their spots in the queues. of course, majority of tourists took pictures with the world-famous universal globe while waiting for the gates to open. take note that in order to make the most out of your universal studios experience, make an effort to come early. the theme park opens at 10am and closes at 7pm or 9pm, depending on the schedule/occasion.
as the gates finally opened, we rushed through the crowd of tourists to get a headstart with the rides. do take a map of the theme park and strategize where to go to maximize time. be careful to get the english version though.
seeing new york on TV or in the movies, the NY setting is pretty damn realistic. with its detailed architecture and replica of famous new york buildings, photos are a-flying in this area. among the replicas you can find inside new york is the Rockefeller Center and the New York Public Library.
after dinner, we decided that we would wait for the fireworks show by 9:30pm. since the park rides were closing at 7pm, we went to The Maritime Experiential Museum just outside the theme park to kill some time before coming back to watch the fireworks. this newly-opened museum houses historical accounts regarding the maritime adventures especially focusing on asian pirates (sorry, no jack sparrow). we wandered around for a few minutes and took some pictures.
the wonderful fireworks exhibition lasted for around 15 minutes. i wasn’t able to take pictures or shoot a video because i was busy enjoying the show. indeed, a perfect ending to a perfect day filled with thrilling rides and hours of fun. this is an adventure i will not forget in many years to come.

langkawi
i always have this love-hate relationship with the month. whatever it is, i'm here to blog about my trip to langkawi.
this is the second time i traveled with the family. although there was an 'minor accident' at the airport which almost made most of us didn't feel like going for the trip anymore, we still managed to make this trip ended happily.
our first meal on the island Wonderland Seafood Store, Kuah Town. as a 'kampung' girl who is living in a small town, i personally think that wonderland is slightly overwhelmed with the overrated blog reviews. overall, the food was just above average and the price was quite reasonable.
we didn't have much thing to do on the first day since we arrived langkawi in the evening. after the dinner, we dropped by the duty free shops in the town. on the duty tax free island and chocolates are absolutely cheaper. that's why we all went home with empty pockets after the trip.
we booked for our island hopping at rm30 with the dealer at airport. the package includes the destinations and activity.
our journey to the island was so exciting. the sea was getting up but the boat driver seemed in a hurry and he drove the boat super fast. the boat pitched so violently and i could feel my butt wasn't on the seat already. we screamed all the way to the island.
despite my laziness and inefficiency, hope you guys will still check for my updates once in a while.
